Cooler Days Mean More Movement

While walking this evening I came across this huge yellow leaf.I thought that it was rather unique since it was so big.Brought my camera outside and took a picture.I placed a smaller leaf next to the larger leaf so that you could compare the size. What caught my eye at first was the nice yellow color of the leaf.I am very partial to yellow flowers and leaves.

It was cooler day today. This morning it was overcast and I thought for sure that we would get some much needed rain which didn't happen. The sun reappeared this afternoon. It was only in the low 70's this morning which is normal for us but after the sun came out it shot up into the mid 80's.Going to be in the 70's over the weekend which will be so very welcomed.

We are going to end the month of August as the hottest and driest August on record. Our mean temperature for August is 78 degrees which is quite warm for us.We have only had about 1/2 inch of rain all month and our average rainfall for the month of August is 3 inches.

Got in lots of movement today.Almost made it to 10,000 steps.Cooler weather really gets me moving after being so sluggish with the hot weather we have been experiencing.

The Heat Returns

Reached 90 again today. This makes our 14th lemonade day for the summer.I took this picture in our back yard the other evening. We are so dry here.Wanted to take the picture and show how the leaves are already falling. It is suppose to be a little cooler tomorrow and we might get some rain. The weekend is suppose to be nice with maybe highs of 80's which is seasonable for the end of August.

With the return of the heat and humidity I wasn't up to walking all that much today. The heat zapped my energy so my step counter is lower today.

A Big Day For My Grandson

Today was a big day for my 6 1/2 year old grandson. He got to ride the big bus to school for the first time.A little background info is needed. My grandson was a premature baby born 6 weeks early. He weighed only 3 pounds 4 ounces at birth. He has been developmentally delayed but is catching up more each year.He attended the special needs pre-k at his present primary school for three years.Last year he was in kindergarten at the same school. He doesn't have any major issues just that his fingers and hands are weak and that he is small for his age.He has been riding the small special needs bus to school the last 4 years. This year we were thinking that it was time for him to ride the big bus although his mommy wasn't too thrilled about the idea. The special needs bus came right to their door and it came about 45 minutes later than the big bus.Our grandson told his mother Sunday evening that he wanted to ride the big bus to school. She sent a note to school and everything got worked out. This morning was his first morning to ride the big bus and he loved it.He is so excited about riding it to school every morning.School is starting a little earlier this year. There was a problem with our grandson getting to school at the new starting time when he rode the special needs bus.He was coming into his classroom after all of the other children were settled in.He didn't like that one bit.Now he is very happy that he arrives with the rest of the children.
The heat returned today.Got up to 89 so didn't make it to another lemonade day. They are saying that tomorrow it might get up to 91.
It took more of an effort to walk this evening but I managed to walk for 1/2 hour.Later on I rode my stationary bike for 20 minutes.I got to thinking that I have been doing 50 minutes of exercising in the evenings the last few weeks. That is quite an accomplishment for me.

And Another View of The New River Gorge

I've enjoyed sharing my pictures of The New River Gorge so thought I would post another one. This picture was also taken from the jet boat.
The end of July we took a vacation to the Bryson City NC area.On one of the days we took a 4 1/2 hour round trip tourist train ride from Bryson City to The Nantahala Gorge. We were rather disappointed in the Nantahala Gorge.Guess in our minds we were looking for something similar to The New River Gorge but it wasn't.It looked like a place to get into the river for rafting. We only had a 1/2 hour layover at that gorge which gave us enough time to get some lunch and that was it.If we had more time in that area we might have learned to appreciate it as much as our New River Gorge here in West Virginia.
The weather has been so nice yesterday and today.I got outside today and got in some walking. There was a nice breeze and the temperature was in the low 80's.Tomorrow the temperature will be on the rise and by Wednesday we might get to 90 once again.
I walked for 1 /2 hour today and also rode my stationary bike.I have more energy when the weather is more reasonable.

Another View of The New River Gorge

Thought that I would go ahead and post another picture of The New River Gorge area. This picture was taken on the jet boat ride that we took on The New River. In the distance is the New River Gorge Bridge.

In the previous picture, if you look to the right you can see the tram that takes you down to the river. There is a state park in that area that we visited two years ago.We took the jet boat ride on The New River. We rode the tram down to the river in order to take the jet boat ride. The jet boat ride was lots of fun.We have taken one other jet boat ride and that was in the Myrtle Beach area.

Catching Up

This is a picture of The New River Gorge which about an hour's drive north of us.Such a scenic area.

Last night I watched the NASCAR race so I didn't get anything posted to my blog.I am a big NASCAR fan.The race was at Bristol Motor Speedway which is 100 miles south of us.There were 160,000 fans in attendance. That nice race is impossible to get tickets.I'd love to go to a race there someday. Our 6 year old grandson is becoming a NASCAR fan thanks to the movie CARS.He has a big collection of the cars from the movie CARS.He also collects the small NASCAR cars too.I am thinking that a trip to a race might be in our future. Both Charlotte Motor Speedway and Martinsville aren't too far from us so we might get to a race at one of those locations before Bristol.
It has been so hot here.Haven't been up to doing much walking.I've been riding my stationary bike in the evenings once it cools down.I will post my steps for both Saturday and Sunday;
Saturday August 25...6,249 steps...3 miles
Sunday August 26..6,729 steps....3 miles

No Pedometer Today

Since it is already on its way to being another hot one I have made the decision that I won't be wearing my pedometer today. It is just way too hot and humid to push myself to get in a lot of steps.I've been doing that all week so I feel that it is time to give my body some needed rest with this heat and humidity.

Wanted to post another snow picture.Just looking at the picture cools me off and refreshes me.I love snow and would much rather have snow than this heat and humidity.I cope better with snow and cold weather than with the heat and humidity.Guess if our house was air conditioned the heat and humidity wouldn't bother me as much.
