Sack Race

I couldn't get both pictures downloaded together so I downloaded the class picture with the post.Here is the picture of my grandson participating in the sack race.

Field Day

My grandson's primary school held their PE field day on Thursday.It was scheduled for Wednesday but due to rainy weather they were able to reschedule it for Thursday.

Family and friends were invited to attend and join in the fun.Jeremy's teacher participated in the sack race and relay race with her class.It was nice to see the joy in the childrens eyes when they watched their teacher join in the fun.

The first picture is our grandson's class enjoying their lunches they brought from home.They ate before they "played".The second picture is our grandson Jeremy enjoying the sack race.Our grandson is blessed to be in a school where most class sizes are under 20 students.There are 17 students in his class.I remember back in the dark ages when I was in elementary school our classes had at least 30 students and usually more.

Lovely Flower

I took this picture of one of the flowers in one of my hanging baskets.This is a gerbera daisy.I love the color.Not sure what to call the color but whatever it is I really like it.

Went to see the Indiana Jones movie early this afternoon.The theater was quite cold.The movie was a little intense for my liking.Guess as I get older I prefer movies that are mellow and not too intense.

Around and Around We Went

Our area is having our annual Mountain Festival.Yesterday afternoon on the spur of the moment we decided to take our grandson to the carnival which is a big part of the festival.He rode most of the rides by himself.I decided to the give the Tilt A Whirl a try once again.A few years ago we went to Tweetsie Railroad amusement park in Boone NC.I rode the Tilt A Whirl with our grandson then and said I would never ride it again.I was "green" when I got off of the ride.

How fast I forget since I rode the Tilt A Whirl once again yesterday.I am once again saying never ever again.I loved that ride when I was a young girl going to carnivals but since I am now a grandmother that ride does not agree with me.My body felt like it was whirling for a couple hours after I rode the ride.My hubby rode the Scrambler yesterday with our grandson and he was also not feeling too well after that ride.Our grandson was feeling great after both rides and continued on to ride other rides.

No more Tilt A Whirl for me.We are going to Disney World in August.I will not be getting on any spinning rides.Hope I remember that in a few months!

Thought I would take a little detour from my DC pictures and show some pictures that I took last night.

We saw in our local newspaper that a Jeff Gordon Race Car Simulator was going to be at a local car dealership.Our grandson Jeremy is a huge Jeff Gordon fan so we wanted to take him to see the race car and hauler.

To our surprise there weren't many people there.Jeremy was in the car for around 10 minutes.We have seen the same sort of thing in Pigeon Forge TN in what NASCAR CAFE(which is no longer in business).They charged quite a bit to ride the simulator so the free ride for Jeremy was quite a deal:)

White House Gate

This is the back gate to the White House.I really appreciated how ornate it was.It didn't dawn on me till we returned home how the front gate is no longer used.The front gate was used, I believe up until 9/11.After 9/11 Pennsylvania Ave in front of the White House was closed to traffic.It was then turned into a pedestrian area which is very nice.I can remember the news showing the President's motorcade leaving and entering and front gate when I was growing up.

The odd thing is that the front iron fence is a lot nicer than the back iron fence.You would think that they would replace the back iron fence to match the front iron fence but I guess they have their reasons for not doing that.

My grandson was asking me questions about the White House yesterday which I couldn't answer.I need to do some research.He wanted to know when it was built etc..I saw on The White House website last night that you need to make reservations with your congressman way ahead of time if you want a self guided tor of The White House.It was noted that purses,back packs among other things are not allowed.I can understand the security reasons but that means you need to plan well before taking a White House tour.

So glad my pictures are downloading much easier now.I have more pictures to share in days to come.

This is a picture of the front of The White House that I took.One of my daughters told me that I should have put my camera through the fence to get a clear picture.I was afraid that one of the Secret Service Agents might come after me.

The Washington Monument

Back Home

I wrote this the other day.I've been having problems downloading the picture to go with the post.Thought I would go ahead and post this now and try later to add a picture or two.The picture was suppose to be a picture of The Washington Monument.Hope to get it posted later today.


I hadn't even realized that it had been awhile since I last wrote.The last week or so has been so busy.



This past weekend was my dad's memorial service in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC.It was a fast trip since we left on the drive Friday afternoon and returned home late Sunday night.



The memorial service for both my dad and brother was very nice.They both passed away from lung cancer last year.My brother Dave passed away in February of 2007 and my dad passed away the day after Christmas.



It was a sad time but it was also nice to see my relatives that I hadn't seen for some time.There was also a remembrance for my mother.She passed away in July of 1975.She was only 52 then.



After the memorial service we took the subway train into DC for some sightseeing.Our seven year old grandson Jeremy was so excited about seeing The White House,The Washington Monument and The Lincoln Memorial.



The picture that I posted was taken by our daughter at the top of the stairs at The Lincoln Memorial.We walked all over to see the different monuments.Our grandson was getting so tired but he was determined to take the long walk down the reflecting pool to The Lincoln Memorial.We didn't make it to The Jefferson Memorial or the Capital building.



Maybe next year we can work it out to see the capital building,The Jefferson Memorial and Arlington Cemetary.



It was so nice to see how clean the city remains.I worked a block from The White House in the early 1970's.It was a clean and safe city then so it thrilled me to find out that it remains the same.Not much has changed except for old government buildings being torn down and new ones built.



I liked the look of the pedestrian area in front of the White House instead of all of the traffic going by on PA Ave the way it was before 9/11.

Bubbles

We had such lovely weather today.After our grandson's 1 PM soccer game we spent sometime outside.It was one of the nicer Sundays we have had so far this Spring.The temperature was in the upper 60's and with the sun shining brightly it made for a lovely day for a soccer game.

Our grandson has been wanting to play with bubbles.I had my camera ready to capture some pictures of the bubbles he was blowing.This is a picture of one of his bubbles.

Still working on my yuccas.I've been pulling weeds,trimming and raking.Makes for great exercise.

A Hint of Green

This is how the wooded area behind our back yard looked on May 1st.I wanted to post a picture to compare how it looked on April 1st.

There is a hint of green in the wooded area.Our grass is nice and green so it does look like Spring although the leaves haven't fully come out on the trees yet.It still amazes me how some years we have leaves on the trees on May 1st but other years like this year there is only a hint of green seen on the trees in the wooded area beyond our back yard.

A Busy Week

This is a picture of our granddaughter Mariah in the play tube area that sets above the game area at Chucky E Cheese.I was sitting at our table and happened to look up and snap a picture at just the right time.

This has turned out to be a busy week.Our grandson woke up Sunday morning at 2 AM complaining about his ear hurting.He told me that it hurt really bad.I gave him a children Tylenol and he was able to go back to sleep within an hour.

Jeremy was able to participate in his soccer game and party later that day.It bothered him some more on Monday.He went to school that day and made it through the school day fine.He had a dentist appointment and was able to make it though that appointment.

That evening he slept and wasn't feeling well again.He was complaining that it was hurting again.The next morning it was hurting again so he stayed home from school.The pediatrician's office was booked up so she wasn't able to get an appointment till the next afternoon.Jeremy made it through school yesterday but had to leave a little early for his appointment.He was diagnosed with an ear infection and is on an antibiotic and children's Tylenol.

Since Jeremy had to leave school both on Monday and Wednesday for appointments we had to be at their house to get granddaughter Mariah off of the school bus.She had the biggest smile on her face when she saw me waiting for the bus to stop in front of their house.We were able to spend some fun time with her those two days at their house without her big brother being home.She attends pre-k three days a week so it will feel rather odd not being there to get her off of the bus tomorrow.

Today was the first day all week that we went and picked our grandson up after school.It was nice to do that again.He got his report card today.Once again he did really well.He was telling us that a picture of Mount Rushmore was on the front page of his Weekly Reader and that he would like to go there and see it.We tried to tell him that it was quite a distance from here to there.He said that is OK we could stop half way there and take a nap.My hubby and I thought that was so cute.

Our weather warmed up quite nicely today.It was in the mid 70's.That sure was nice after setting a record low high on Monday.Our high on Monday was only 42.The previous record low high for the date was 49.
