Halloween

Since I will be gone most of the day tomorrow I thought that I would go ahead and post an update about our Halloween.

This is a picture of our two grandchildren in their wagon being pulled by their mother(our daughter).I walked behind the wagon making sure they were sitting and safe.They wouldn't cooperate and look at me when I was snapping the picture.At least I have a picture of them in the wagon together.

The really odd thing about this Halloween was going out Trick or Treating in daylight.Ever since I was child we trick or treated in the dark which came around 6.This year because daylight savings time doesn't end till the first Sunday in November we still have daylight at 6 PM.

Since it was still daylight when we started out I was able to take some pictures while my grandchildren were actually trick or treating.The pictures were usually taken before the children started out trick or treating.

There were so many children trick or treating in our daughter's neighborhood.Since it is a relatively flat area many people come from out of the neighborhood and park and take their children around that area trick or treating.The homeowners in that area go through lots of candy.Our son in law stayed at their house and gave out their candy.They had quite a bit of candy but ran our within 1 1/2 hours.There was still 1/2 hour to go but they turned their light off for the last half hour.That is the signal that either someone isn't home or they don't have candy.Once the porch light was out no more children came to the door.It was such a nice evening that our son in law was able to sit outside and give out the candy.That is what most of the homeowners did.

Wonder if I am the only one that didn't like having daylight at the beginning of trick or treating? It just seemed so odd after having darkness at 6 for trick or treating all of the other years.

Catching Up

Guess today and yesterday should tell me how the days ahead will be.Yesterday was my granddaughter Mariah's 3rd birthday and today is Halloween.Both have been very busy days and will more than likely get busier as my granddaughter gets older.

The party yesterday evening was really nice.Mariah wasn't too impressed though.I tried downloading two pictures but was having problems so now I will download one and save the others for another time.Mariah had a nice time at her party.She really enjoyed her cake and ice cream as the picture shows.This is a picture of me with my granddaughter while she is enjoying her cake and ice cream.

I attended our grandson's Halloween party at school with my daughter this afternoon.It was so nice.The teachers get dressed up for the parties which last about 1/2 hour at the end of the school day.It is a big deal for the children.

I will show pictures of our Halloween adventures in the days to come.Our grandson was Batman and our granddaughter was dressed as a 50's girl.I went with our daughter to take our grandchildren Trick or Treating in their neighborhood.Since our granddaughter is still so small our daughter pulled them around in their wagon.I took some pictures of them in the wagon and trick or treating.

Granddaughter's Birthday

Since it is now after midnight I thought that I would post a picture of my granddaughter and wish her a very happy 3rd birthday.Hard to believe that she is already 3 years old.These three years have flown by.She is small for her age but has under gone testing by an endocrinologist and everything checked out fine.

Had an unusual sighting today.On the way home from our daughter's I was getting ready to turn on to the divided highway.I was getting ready to make a left.My husband told me that it was clear to the right.I looked to the left and saw that it wasn't clear.Four deer were crossing the road.The odd thing is that there were no other cars around.We have never seen deer in that area.I was able to sit there and wait for the deer to clear the road before I made the turn.Sure didn't want an encounter with a deer.That happened a few years ago when my husband was driving.Had to have our front windshield replaced but other than that everything was fine.Really shook us up though.

Again,I didn't have my camera with me.That makes two times within a week that I wished I had my camera.Seeing the two rainbows the other evening and then the deer yesterday(it's after midnight).

I'll be taking my camera with me to my granddaughter's 3rd birthday party.Should be lots of picture opportunities.

Unusual Sighting for end of October

Hopefully this post and picture will go through this evening.I tried downloading this picture yesterday and sending my post but the site was having technical difficulties with downloading pictures.

I was walking in my yard Friday afternoon and saw these blooms on my rhododendron bush.We have lived here 9 years and this is the first year that the rhododendron has bloomed in October.Got my camera and took a picture to document the blooms.

Tonight we are in for a hard freeze so that will put a quick end to the blooms.Our first frost is a little late this year.We usually have our first frost around October 10th.It is already down to 44 and we are suppose to have a low in the upper 20's.

Rain,Rain and more Rain

This is another view of the same picture I posted the other day.I took this picture this morning.I am hoping that shows that some leaves have fallen from the trees due to the high winds and rain we have been experiencing the last few days.

Not sure of the exact amount but I read that we have had any where from 4-5 inches of rain fall this week.It reminds me of winter when it starts to snow then doesn't know when to stop.The sun has peaked in out some between the heavy down pours.The sun does the same thing in the winter too but between snow showers.

Rainy Fall Morning

I just took this picture looking out our front door.It is raining and you can see the wet road.Haven't had many rainy mornings this year.

The meteorologist on our local TV station mentioned last night that this year could go down as our driest year ever since records were kept.

Yesterday it got into the 70's.Don't remember our high but we set another record high for the date.Today we are going to be in the 60's.

Catching Up

Had such a busy weekend that I didn't get around to posting anything.

Saturday I attended my niece's baby shower.Had a really nice time.I managed to win two of the prizes.I guessed all of the attributes correctly and I was the one that had the plate with the special number under it.Guess it was my lucky day since it was my birthday.

I had a nice birthday on Saturday but didn't celebrate it till yesterday.We took a ride up the WV Turnpike and went out for lunch then did a little shopping.The picture of the tree was taken inside the car on a side road that we took after the turnpike.Wish I hadn't cut the top of the tree off,lol.

Our weather turned warm over the weekend.Yesterday we set another record high for the date.It went up to 80.We are suppose to have some much needed rain move in over night then cool things off.Too bad the weather can't stay nice for Halloween.Maybe it will.Last year the weather was really nice for trick or treating.I will be going with my daughter to take both the grandchildren trick or treating around the neighborhood.Our granddaughter's 3rd birthday is the day before Halloween so that will be a fun day too.

Busy Days

This is a picture of our granddaughter taking her socks off.Yesterday our daughter(her mommy) wanted to eat lunch with friends so we were asked to watch our granddaughter for a few hours.Our granddaughter will be turning 3 on the 30th and is very active.We took her to the soft play area at the mall which is set aside for children ages 1-5.It's a great place for our granddaughter to play and tumble around without getting hurt.When we first got there our granddaughter was the only one there but she had fun anyway.She is taking her socks off so that she can walk up the slide then turn around and slide down it.She is very strong and has no problems walking up the slide as long as she doesn't have any socks on.

There was a little melt down when it was time to go home.So glad I had my camera with me.I took some video of her meltdown for her mommy to enjoy,lol.We had the hardest time getting her socks and shoes back on her.Hubby and I both said that we couldn't remember having this much problems with her older brother when he was her age.Our daughter said we did but we just don't remember it.Maybe when our granddaughter gets 3 years older we won't remember her tantrums either.

It is warm here in our area once again.Yesterday it went up to 78 and set a record high for the date.We are suppose to have storms come through our area today and cool things down again.

Today is our oldest daughter's 31st birthday.Tomorrow is my birthday so I ordered a cake from the bakery for us to share.I will pick it up this afternoon after we pick our grandson up after school.He's looking forward to the party for his mommy's birthday.We are just having cake and ice cream but to him it is a party.

A Nice Fall Day

I took another picture this evening of the array of colors across the street from us.The colors are so pretty that I want to take pictures before the color fades away.

This has been another pretty fall day.Short sleeve weather with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the mid 70's.We are usually wearing long sleeves by now but haven't had to wear them much this month.

This week is National School Lunch Week.We were invited to each lunch with our grandson's first grade class.That is always a lot of fun.Got to see one of my daughter's friends who was there with her 1 month old baby having lunch with her first grader b Sad to say her first grader is not in our grandson's class.I got to see her baby for the first time.He was napping and being such a good baby.

After lunch we did some shopping.I got to shop for a baby once again.We are invited to my niece's baby shower this Saturday.She and her hubby don't want to know the sex of the baby so it was rather hard shopping for a generic gift but fun none the less.

Got my annual flu shot this evening.Was nice not to be wearing long sleeves.By the time flu shots are given our weather is on the cool side and I am always figuring out something to wear that has loose long sleeves.Didn't have to do that this time around which was so nice.

Got in lots of walking with shopping in three different stores.One was our Super Wal-Mart which is a very big store:) You get in plenty of walking in that store.

Nice Fall Weather

This is a picture of our dog Bub.He is a mutt that we adopted from the animal shelter 9 years ago.He was a year old at the time so that means that he recently celebrated his 10th birthday.He is a very active dog for being 10.Bub and our 6 1/2 year old grandson are buddies.

Don't have many fall pictures yet since our leaves haven't changed much.Saturday I thought I was taking pictures but was I ever wrong.I had forgotten to take my memory card out of the computer so I was snapping away with my camera but not really doing anything without the memory card.My grandson later reminded me that the memory card was still in the computer,lol.

It was such a pretty day today.We went up to 79.I did some walking outside this afternoon.This morning I went to the mall to get my hair cut.After my hair cut I walked through out the mall for exercise.

I am starting to feel more energetic after this long bought with a cold and sinus problems.Today I decided that I will just log my steps and mileage in the book I keep for that purpose.I get too hard on myself when I don't write every day with how I am doing with walking.Since I haven't been feeling too well I haven't been walking much which meant my posting slacked off too.Now I will post no matter if I walked or not.I will just keep track of my steps and mileage off line but will continue with my walking and riding my stationary bike.

Some Fall Color

I took this picture yesterday morning from my front door.I thought the colors were so pretty.This is my view from my front door and window.The area across the street from us is wooded as well the area behind our house.We only have neighbors to the sides of us which makes for a very quiet neighborhood.

Our weather has turned drastically colder.We have been experiencing days in the low 50's and nights in the upper 30's to low 40's.It was 39 when I got up this morning.Now our temperatures are below normal which feels rather cold after all of those days when we were experiencing temperatures 20 degrees above normal.

Feeling More Like Autumn

I took this picture last fall.Not sure if it shows much color or not.We haven't had much color change yet so I haven't taken any pictures of the trees yet.Since it is cooling off and our nights will be cooler we should be showing more color here in our area soon.

I went around closing our windows this evening.It's suppose to go down to 40 tonight.We are going to try and not turn the heat on yet.Tomorrow we are suppose to only have a high of 53 so long sleeves and long pants will be needed.

I worked out in the yard today.It was in the 70's today which made for a nice day to work in the yard.

Wednesday October 10th...6,856 steps...3 miles

It has been a very warm October so far.........

Since I posted a picture of rain clouds the other day I thought I'd post a picture of how pretty the sky looked Saturday morning.I loved seeing the bright blue sky and fluffy clouds.

It has been so warm here.We have been setting record highs.Today we set another record high.It went up to 88.If it had reached 90 we would have had the first lemonade day ever in October.Sunday it was up to 86.Not sure what the high was on Saturday but it was quite warm that day too.

Got some walking in today and rode my stationary bike.

Got A Little Rain but it's still warm

When I went outside this morning to pick up our newspaper off of the driveway I thought I'd grab my camera.It had rained so I didn't know what I'd find.I found clouds in the sky which we haven't seen much of during the summer and early autumn season.I also noticed one tree had started to change color but all of the other trees surrounding it were still green.That is what this picture is.I thought that it was rather unique that only tree had changed color.

When we were out this afternoon I noticed more and more trees that have changed colors.It is nice to finally see some color.Maybe the little rain we have had lately have helped the trees change color.Another thing that helps is shorter daylight and we sure are experiencing that.Not sure what our sunset time it but I would say that it is between 7 and 7:15.

I got in a walk this morning.I am saddened to know that our city park will be closing for the season on the 7th.No cars will be allowed in the park.I believe they allow you to park outside of the park and still walk around in there.The reason they close so early is to get the lights up and ready for the big Christmas lights display that opens on Thanksgiving day.You drive through the park and admire all of the light displays.It draws a big crowd every night through New Years week.

A Fun Evening

This is a picture of my grandson on the soccer field.I took it either last Saturday or Sunday.Sunday was the last soccer game of the season.

Had a fun evening.Since our daughter wasn't feeling too well and I was feeling a little better my hubby and I took our grandson to his school's fall festival.It was a lot of fun.His classroom was used as a dance party.I tried to get him to go in there but he didn't want to be bothered.The music was too loud for his liking.His teacher was in there having fun with the children.I thought that it would be a nice way to see a fun side of his teacher.

He got to take his first ride on a pony.He had to wait in line for a half hour but he was very patient.Of all times not to have my camera with me.I will make a point to take it next year.Our granddaughter will be 4 then so she will be able to join in the fun too.Our grandson's school is a primary school for ages kindergarten through second grade so next year will be his last year to enjoy the fall festival there.

Got in some walking at the school which was good.Also ran into some people I hadn't seen in awhile.We got some much needed rain today but it cleared off by 5 which was nice for the outdoor activities at the fall festival.

Been Taking It Easy

This is a recent picture of our cat Casey.I was thinking that I hadn't posted her picture but had posted the pictures of our other two cats Sneaky and Twinkie.If I had already posted her picture,oh well,here is another one,lol.

Haven't been posting since I have taking it easy trying to get over this head cold.I have felt miserable and sure will be glad when it finally leaves my system.

One thing about having a cold is that you can't taste anything.I have used that to my advantage and gotten back to watching my carb intake more closely.The scale is going down once again.I am so thrilled to see that.I few years ago I followed the Atkins way of eating...watching my carb intake.I lost 43 pounds and felt great but still had more to lose.Little by little I added back carbs which caused my weight to go back up some.Thankfully I didn't re-gain all of the weight that I had lost.

The end of April I started walking but I wasn't cutting back my carb intake like I should have.I lost inches and about 10 pounds since the end of April.I was hoping to have lost more after getting more active.Now that I am watching what I eat more closely and more active(once this cold is gone) I should do much better with losing weight.I do so much better not eating lots of carbs and feel like I have that under control again.I am eating protein,vegetables and salads and feel very satisfied.
