Aren't They Lovely

It's a week later and my daffodils are in full bloom.They were well worth the wait.I wasn't holding out much hope since two bloomed a few days ago and didn't look too promising.I believe the frost got them.

A few days later the rest of the daffodils bloomed in all of their wondrous yellow color.For the last few years I have only had one or two daffodils bloom.I really believe that our warmer night time temperatures without many below freezing nights have helped my daffodils bloom quite nicely this Spring.I will need to remember to be patient since they seem to bloom later than all of the rest of the daffodils around us.We also haven't had any snow in a few weeks which usually weighs the daffodils down.We have had plenty of rain but no snow.

Waiting For Daffodils To Bloom

I am waiting for my daffodils to bloom.Each day I check hoping to see some blooms.I took this picture the other day and it looks very promising.I am just hoping that the below freezing temperatures we had the other night didn't harm my daffodils.Last year we only had two daffodils to bloom.I am hoping that more than two bloom this Spring.

The odd thing is that daffodils are blooming all over our area.There is a wooded area behind our house that goes down in to a valley.I looked the other day and saw that the wild daffodils down in the lower area are blooming.Just don't understand why it takes mine so long to bloom.

I saw some buds on some trees today.That means that we should soon see some trees in full bloom.I am so glad that Easter is in April this year.We should have some Spring color by then.Last year it seemed like it was still Winter when Easter arrived in March.

Happy St.Patrick's Day

I want to wish everyone a very nice St.Patrick's Day.I am Irish from my father's side of the family.

I have a corned beef brisket cooking in my crock pot.I usually simmer it on top of the stove but decided to try the crock pot this time.I love corned beef so I am keeping my fingers crossed that the corned beef turns out nice and tender..just the way I like it.

We always had corned beef and cabbage on St.Patrick's Day when I was growing up.Guess that is how I developed such a fondness for it.

I have a green top on.Don't know why, but I rarely buy anything green to wear and I love the color.I have hazel eyes so green looks fine on me.

Will This Be The Last?

I am wondering if this will be the last of our winter snows.Spring arrives next week so this might just be the last.If it snows after Spring arrives it will be a Spring snow and not a Winter snow.

Hard to believe it was in the mid 70's earlier in the week.I was enjoying walks outside.Guess I am starting to be of the mindset that snow belongs in November,December,January and February.Once March arrives I am ready for Spring.Our days in the mid 70's are quite unusual for March.Our normal high is in the low 50's.Highs in the mid 70's are what we are to expect in early May.

I have seen some daffodils in bloom here in our area.My daffodils haven't bloomed yet.Looks like they will any day now.I love Spring flowers especially anything yellow.

What is nice about this snow is that it didn't stick to the roads since we had such a wonderful warm up earlier in the week.This kind of snowfall would be wonderful for Christmas Day.You can enjoy the snow but get around in the car also.

Isn't This Adorable

I did some web surfing on ETSY the other day.I came across this adorable jumper that I knew my granddaughter Mariah would love.

She loves cats and looks forward to seeing our three cats whenever she comes for a visit.Her big brother Jeremy adores our dog and Mariah adores the three cats.

When I saw this jumper listed I had to order it for my granddaughter.It is a size small 4-6.Mariah is short so it might be a little long on her.I ordered the jumper over the weekend and it arrived today.

The lady that made it lives about 15 miles from where we lived when we lived in Georgia back in the 70's and mid 80's.

I believe ETSY is going become a favorite site of mine.

Fred The Emperor Penguin

My grandson Jeremy's second grade class has been reading The Emperor's Egg this week.I have read it along with him and must admit that I have really enjoyed the story.

As a special project Jeremy's teacher assigned each child to write a penguin story.The assignment was given on Monday and due today.

At first, our grandson balked at such a big project.The story had to have at least 10 sentences,a cover and an illustration.Each afternoon after school I supervised as he worked on the assignment.He titled his story Fred The Emperor Penguin.He wrote 14 sentences.Seems like once he started writing he didn't know when to stop.I had him write a rough draft Tuesday afternoon, then he wrote the final copy yesterday afternoon.He worked through the project with his own ideas and words.I was there to keep him on task.It was fun to watch him create his own story.

He was so proud of his accomplishment and so am I!

The Emperor's Egg is such a wonderful story.I recommend it to everyone of all ages.

The Great Smoky Mountains Area

I took this picture last summer when we were visiting The Great Smoky Mountains area.This was taken after our drive up to Ober Gatlinburg in Gatlinburg TN.

We are planning a weekend getaway to Pigeon Forge for this coming weekend.It's only 200 miles from us which won't be too bad for a weekend getaway.Back in January we noticed on the school calendar that our grandchildren would be off this Friday for a teacher workday.Thanks to all of the snowy and icy weather we have been having the day will now be used for a snow make up day.We were so disappointed when they made that announcement earlier this month.Their Spring break is already down to two days...Good Friday and the Monday after Easter.The rest of the snow make up days will be added at the end of the school year.

We decided to go ahead with the trip even though it will only be a two night stay.We will leave Friday at 3 right after our grandson gets out of school.His sister gets out a little earlier since she is in pre-k.

Another wrinkle has been added to the mix.They are now saying that our area here might get some rain and snow on Sunday.We are still planning on going on our getaway and hoping that the weather won't be too bad for our drive home.

I have made reservations for us to go to the Black Bear Jamboree Dinner and Show in Pigeon Forge.Our grandchildren should enjoy that.
