March Coming In as A Lion

Thought I would write something about the month gone by and boy are we happy to see it go bye bye.I wasn't one bit surprised to see that I hadn't written anything in February.It was such a snowy month that we spent most of it inside and off of the roads.Needless to say there wasn't much to write about except for snow and more snow.

Our small city has broken its all time snow fall record.Not sure how much above we are now.We have now broken the all time winter snowfall record of 80 inches.That is one record that we never wanted to break!

I took this picture looking out our front door a few minutes ago.Schools are opening on a 2 hour delayed basis this morning.I am praying that the school buses and parents cars arrives safely since the back roads such as ours are still snow and ice covered.

Wait....news flash....the sun just appeared.Boy,oh,boy is that ever nice to see.The roads should be in much better conditions by the end of the school day.

There have been quite a few times in February that we spent inside days on end.The last string happened from last Wednesday to yesterday.We had a blizzard warning and a winter storm warning.Yesterday after shoveling our driveway once again we decided that we wanted to get out for awhile.After we got the driveway shoveled it started snowing again!

The new snow didn't stop us.We ventured out to Applebee's and had a wonderful meal.What a time we had getting back up our hill.We live on a hill and when it is snow and ice covered it can be quite a task getting your car up the hill.The snow plow had been through earlier in the day.We didn't have any problems getting down our hill going out to eat but coming back up the hill was a whole other story thanks to the new snow fall.

Glad we finally made it to our driveway but it was quite an ordeal since we got stuck a few times.Thanks to a car wanting by us they nicely made tracks in the road so Ken was able to follow the tracks of the car ahead of us and made it into our driveway.I felt bad for that car since they couldn't make it all of the way up the hill but made it to our neighbor's driveway just above us.They turned around slowly in our neighbor's driveway and came back down.We are so thankful that we don't live any further up the hill since a lot of people up that way really struggle to get their cars up the hill in these wintry conditions.I am sure some have bought 4 wheel drive vehicles since we do see vehicles going up our hilly street and not struggling.

More Snow

Took this picture with my new cell phone camera looking out our front door yesterday.I had the camera aiming down the street.We had 8 inches of snow which started around 5 on Friday.

We were under a Winter Storm Warning starting at 6 PM on Friday and it expired at 6 PM yesterday.Schools let out at 12:30 on Friday.

We are very fortunate that this is a light fluffy snow and that we didn't get any ice like the states south of us experienced.

Are we ever happy that the weather was so nice last weekend.We had rain and there was was heavy wind but we didn't experience either of those until our return home.

Last Saturday we left for an overnight trip to Charleston WV which is 100 miles north of us up the West Virginia Turnpike.Had to pay $6 in tolls each way to only go 100 miles each direction.The tolls went up last August.That is a sore subject for those of us that live in the southern part of the state and have to travel north to the state capital.

Our big adventure last weekend was to attend the Rascal Flatts concert at the Charleston Civic Center.The group is our 8 year old grandson Jeremy's favorite.He first got interested in them thanks to the movie CARS and the song Life Is A Highway which they sang in the movie.Jeremy enjoyed the concert as well as I did.The women behind us even commented that they could see how much he was enjoying himself:)

The opening act was Darius Rucker.Really enjoyed his country songs which we could understand.When he sang some former Hootie and The Blowfish songs hubby Ken and I had no idea what he was singing.Jeremy didn't care for him and wanted him to stop already and bring on Rascal Flatts!

Had a nice time in Charleston.Visited their indoor mall.Jeremy enjoyed the escalators and elevators since we don't have any in our area.We were on the 8th floor at our hotel.Jeremy loved the elevator ride in the glass enclosed elevator.Jeremy is already talking about wanting to go back to Charleston and do more exploring.He wants to see the gold domed state capital building:)

Our Cat Sneaky

Our cat Sneaky doesn't mind the cold weather and snow.The other day I went outside to clear off the car from all of the snow.It was very cold outside.Sneaky didn't seem to mind since he wanted to join me.

Took my camera outside with me to take some pictures of the snow around our yard.Couldn't believe how still Sneaky remained so that I could take this picture.It was like he was posing for me.Took a few others of him but I liked this one the most.I tried to get down to his level so I love the angle of this picture with the snow on the sidewalk and in the background.

Our other two cats Twinkie and Casey won't venture outside in the snow and cold.

The Sun!

Woke up to a bright sunny morning.My first thought was... has Spring arrived after this deep freeze and snowy week.Oh to my utter dismay Spring has not arrived and this is what greets me out my back door.Aren't those some huge icicles.Maybe I should start taking pictures of icicles instead of snow.That would be something different.

Sure is nice to see the sun although they are saying that we are expecting more snow this afternoon.What, more snow? Think we have had enough snow to last us the rest of the winter.We haven't seen the bare ground in 3 weeks since the big snow storm on December 18th.

It is only 14 outside.Our road hasn't been treated since Thursday.They plowed and treated our road on Thursday morning to get rid of the last snow and ice before it started up again.Although the sun is shining it is too cold for any kind of treatment to work on the back roads where there isn't much traffic.

Maybe we will see the plow sometime this weekend.From what I have heard they want to get all roads clear and open so that schools can reopen on Monday.There is a hint in the forecast that more snow may be heading our way Monday night and Tuesday.

Schools on the Virginia side of the area opened on Monday after their 2 week winter break but haven't been back since then due to all of this snowy and cold weather.Our grandson was happy to return to school this past Monday.Little did we know that it would be the only school day that week.Schools on the WV side where we live did not open and have been closed since they got out for their winter break.

Now the question is....when will we see the bare ground again? We have tickets to take our grandson to the Rascal Flatts concert in Charleston WV on the 23rd which is two weeks from today.We want to go and don't want any wintry weather to keep us home.Charleston is only 100 miles north of us up the WV Turnpike.Please,please,please give us a nice weekend on the 23rd:)

Out My Front Door

This is the view out my front yard this morning.I opened the front door and took some pictures.Hadn't ventured outside since Monday evening.

When we parked our car in our driveway Monday evening we decided to not pull in so far.We left the car closer to the street.Our thinking is that it will be much easier to not have so much to clear off between our car and the street.We made the mistake of parking our car way up close to our house when we had the big storm back on December 18th which meant that we had lots to shovel before we could even get our car out of our driveway and on to the street.

Our driveway is a double driveway that can hold at least 6 cars.Needless to say we have only seen only one side of our driveway since the big storm December 18th.Shoveling the whole driveway is way too much work for the two of us.

I ventured outside this morning with broom in hand.I swept our front steps clear of snow and also cleared the front sidewalk and some of the driveway.The snow is light and fluffy.Sure makes a big difference being able to sweep the snow instead of shoveling it:)Measured 8 inches of snow when I was outside.

Our high today was around 20 and the wind chill much lower.We are under another winter weather advisory starting at 1 tomorrow.Schools are closed again tomorrow.

Anyone Want Some?

Would love to share this and spread it around for all takers.We have seen our share and more of snow since the big snow storm December 18th.

Haven't been doing much since we don't care to drive in this slippery mess.All of my days are running together since it has been snow,snow and more snow plus add in the bitterly cold temperatures for good measure.

New Years Eve we were out and about some.Bought some groceries getting ready for the snow storm since we were under a winter storm watch.It snowed off and on the following days.We received maybe 6 inches of snow from that storm.We were able to get out on Sunday after being inside the previous Thursday.Took grandson Jeremy home from his stay here with us.

Schools reopened yesterday so things seemed to be back to "normal".That was short lived since schools were closed today.The snow started back up around 5 yesterday evening.We rushed Jeremy home and got back just before the roads got too slick.

It snowed all night and day.Measured about 10 inches of snow.That is the new light and powdery snow that is on top of the frozen old snow.

Just checked the forecast.We are expecting another 2-4 inches overnight.It might clear off some tomorrow just to tease us.More snow is expected on Thursday and Friday.

Whoever wants some snow come to southern West Virginia and help yourself! We will gladly share with any takers.

Enjoying the Snow!

Our granddaughter is enjoying the snow.She didn't want to come in.She has outgrown her winter boots so new boots and gloves are needed for this kind of weather.We haven't seen this much snow from one storm in a few years.
