Trip to PA

We were gone for just about a week to both the Lancaster area and Philadelphia. What a contrast in places.

Sure hope I picked the correct pictures. The first picture is suppose to show an Amish horse and buggy. The second picture is a scene in Philadelphia. We went from the laid back life in Lancaster to the hustle and bustle in Philadelphia.

We had a nice time in both areas although there was such a contrast. In the Lancaster area we went to two different toy train places. The first was The Choo Choo Barn and the second one was the Toy Train Museum. Both of our grandchildren enjoyed both places.I will have pictures to share in some upcoming posts.

We spent a day in Hershey at Hershey Amusement Park.We should have planned for two days since that is such a huge park and nothing like the park I went to as a child. Our grandchildren enjoyed the water park area of the park so much that we didn't have a chance to ride many rides. There are 11 different roller coasters at Hershey Park.

The last day in the Lancaster area was spent at The Childrens Hands On Museum. It was a fun place for both of them.Lots of hands on activities for them to enjoy.

Then it was on to Philadelphia which was my first time in that city. The architecture of so many buildings really amazed me.I took lots of pictures in Philadelphia.Once we valet parked our car at the downtown hotel we didn't move it till we left for home.We did lots of walking in the downtown area.Thankfully it was flat unlike the hills and mountains here at home.

We were fortunate to have tickets for the tour of Independence Hall.We also saw The Liberty Bell. One evening was spent touring the city on "The Ducks Tour".Here is a link for the "Duck tour" if you care to check it out:

We ate lunch at The Reading Terminal Market. It was wall to wall people. What an experience that was.You buy your meals from vendors. With 5 of us in

Walking On The Trail

I used my cellphone camera to take pictures as I was walking on the trail in our city park this past Sunday.Last Saturday was the first time I had walked on the trail. It has been open for about a year and I never took time out to explore the trail.I enjoyed the walk so much on Saturday that I headed back out on it on Sunday.
The bottom picture was taken before the top picture. You walk up and around about half way on the trail. Then you head down the path that the top picture shows.
Volunteers built the trail last year. You can tell by walking on the trail all of the work that was put into blazing the trail.Bikes are allowed on the trail too but so far I have only seen one biker.

I had no idea that the trail was so nice.Wish I had tried it sooner.Haven't been back on it since Sunday since our weather has been so rainy this week.As you can see it can be rather lonely on the trail.Haven't seen too many people on it which is a shame. We have needed a trail like this I sure hope more people will take advantage of it.

Flag Day

Today is Flag Day here in the USA.We have our flag flying.I am upset to find that our small city of around 10,000 is not flying the flags today.Don't know what happened but our city is always flying the flags on all special patriotic days.I will be calling city hall in the morning to voice my opinion in the morning.I am thinking and hoping that it is an oversight.Too bad it isn't a day that city hall is open.I am sure that once I called about the oversight that the flags would be flying. That won't happen today since it is a Sunday.
I want to share a website that has the lyrics to It's A Grand Ole Flag and information concerning Flag Day.Please click on the following link:

Water Day

Yesterday was outside water activity fun day at our grandchildren's primary school. We attended and enjoyed watching all of the fun.

Granddaughter Mariah is in the pink bathing suit.It was an overcast day.About 1/2 hour after school dismissed for the day the rain came down hard.Glad it held out till then.It would have been so disappointing to them to miss all of the fun.

It was quite warm and humid outside. After all of the fun water activities watermelon and freezer pops were served inside. The watermelon was so refreshing.

More Views Going Up Our Hill

These are 3 more views of our hill as I was walking up it.Our house is to the right on the top picture. You can barely see the entrance to our driveway towards the top of the picture.
I am so glad that we don't live any further up the hill. When it is snowy weather and the plow hasn't come through yet, cars can usually make it to our house but then need to turn around in our driveway.
A family with 3 girls lives three houses up from us.They have to walk down the hill the morning to catch the school bus and up to their house in the afternoon after getting off of the school bus.

My Walk Continued....

The other day when I was out walking on my hill route I decided to take some pictures using my cell phone. This is the view I see at the bottom of our hill before I start making the climb upward.I took a few more pictures going up the hill that I will share in the next post.
It was an overcast morning when I was walking on Thursday so the pictures aren't all that clear.

My Walking

I just got in from my walk around the block and thought I would write about it.Since this blog started out as a way for me to track my walking I thought that I would get back to writing about my walking.

You are probably wondering what the picture I posted has to do with walking. This is the road across the street from our house that is at the beginning of my walk.I have decided to add in this hilly route to give me more of a challenge.

I start by walking across our street to the hilly road.It is a very scenic secluded walk. The road goes up then flattens a little before it winds around and starts going down hill.I am then at the flat road below our street.I cross the street and walk on the sidewalk.

I get to walk a little ways on the flat sidewalk before reaching our hilly street. It is then uphill to our house.

I tend to walk a little too fast when I am by myself and boy do I feel it when I am walking up the hill to our house.I am hoping that the more I walk it that the better I will be feeling while walking that route. The hill up to our house is strenuous for me.Hoping that after walking that route awhile that it won't feel quite so strenuous.Sure will be nice not having to dread the hill at the end of the walk.

My 8 year old grandson suggested that we walk the hilly route the other day.Since he wanted to walk that route I was game. When I walk with him I tend to walk slower since he can't keep up with my faster pace.I measured my steps when walking with him.I accumulated 2300 steps on the walks with him. While walking that route alone I accumulate about 1800 steps. The funny thing is that I had no idea that I would accumulate more steps by walking slower, lol.
I walked that route Tuesday morning by myself then my grandson wanted me to walk it with him after school that same day.Didn't walk that route yesterday due to the weather.Wanted to get the walk in today before the rain comes again.
